AN EXTRAORDINARY PIANIST COMES TO NEW ZEALAND: MULLED WINE CONCERTS PRESENTS NIKOLAI SARATOVSKY

Nikolai Saratovsky is an internationally acclaimed Russian concert pianist, said by many in the classical music world to be having a stellar career.

At only thirty one he has won a number of major international piano competitions and has an extraordinary repertoire, ranging from Bach to the latest contemporary composers.

Mulled Wine Concerts, the Kapiti-based not-for-profit organisation, will present a piano recital by Nikolai Saratovsky at 2:30PM on 24 June 2018 at the Paekakariki Memorial Hall. Organiser Mary Gow, a concert pianist herself, tells the story of how she met him at his recital in Brussels and mentioned that she came from New Zealand. "His eyes lit up - he told me that he and his Japanese-born wife had always dreamed of visiting New Zealand! From there, it was a short step to discussing possibilities and here we are!"

In 2015 Saratovsky became a member of the International Certificate for Piano Artists program (ICPA) based in Brussels. His talent for educating a growing generation of young musicians gives him the opportunity to give master classes in Japan, Russia,The USA, Canada, Luxembourg and Taiwan. He studied at the Moscow State Conservatory with Professor Elena Richter graduating with the Award for Academic Excellence and a Master's degree, and has gone on to win numerous awards, most notably the Russian President's Award, for his musical accomplishments.

Mary Gow feels that his visit to New Zealand represents a wonderful opportunity for Kapiti audiences to catch a star already well known in Europe, Russia and Japan. "The Mulled Wine Concert Series has presented many important musicians in its ten-year history, but this concert I regard as one of the most important and for the North Island, not-to-bemissed!" Nikolai Saratovsky will present a recital of works by Bach, Brahms Op 118, Schubert Impromptus Op 90, Preludes by Shostakovich and Debussy, the Rachmaninov Barcarolle in g minor and Gershwin. Artworks by Robyn Eastgate- Manning (2robartist@gmail.com) will be on display at the Memorial Hall before and after the concert, continuing another Mulled Wine Concerts tradition.
